Bills Rookie Minicamp

The Bills began practicing for their upcoming season during the weekend. The rookies the Bills picked two weeks ago and undrafted free agents all experienced their first professional practice. Head Coach Chan Gailey couldn't be more impressed with his team's young potential, "I felt that we learned a lot. I thought the guys picked it up fairly well. There was a ton of energy on the field which was great. That was exciting for us to see as coaches. We had a lot of guys giving great effort." CJ Spiller was one of the impressive ones as he showed the speed he had from collage and made great moves. Brian Brohm, who is one of the candidates to take the number one QB spot, loved getting the head start at the quarterback competition. "Definitely a no-brainer...It's a great opportunity for me. I just have to focus on myself, become the best player that I can be and not really worry about how the other guys are doing." The whole week was just getting the younger players on the squad learning the NFL ropes and going over fundamentals during practice. The Bills hold a voluntary mini-camp with the whole team beginning May 25th.

Bills 2010 Draft

The NFL draft. The day when many young Americans dreams of becoming professional football players come true. The time when teams improve their roster in hopes of going to the playoffs or possibly the super bowl. The Bills had to have a very solid draft this year. Although they didn't address their glaring needs they did get solid players that will hopefully become good NFL players.

First pick CJ Spiller RB Clemson
Though the top QBs and pretty solid LTs were still on the board, the Bills decided to go for a playmaker. He could be a really solid pick for the Bills with his speed and vision. He will create excitement for a rather dull offense.

Second pick Torrel Troup DT Central Florida
Again the two top QBs remaining were available on this pick. They decided though to shore the middle of their defensive line. With the Bills switching to a 3-4,they needed a true 3-4 nose tackle. They got that with this pick. If he pans out he could be one of the best nose tackles in the league. The duo of Troup and Kyle Williams could someday strike fear into the gameplan of opposing Offensive Coordinators.

Third Pick Alex Carrington Arkansas State DE
This is a surprising pick for the Bills. Carrington is a good 3-4 defensive end who could fill in for Aaron Schobel if he retires. He has a good combination of strength, size and speed for his position. Although people view him as inconsistent, many agree he could play a big role for Buffalo.

Fourth Pick Marcus Easley Connecticut WR
The Bills need depth at wide receiver so they got Easley. He has big play ability and can take it the distance every time he has the ball. Many believe he can turn into a number three receiver. He can make acrobatic catches and can make plays on special teams.

Fifth Pick Ed Wang Virginia Tech OT
The Bills finally picked a tackle in the fifth round of the draft. Not what many people were thinking of heading into the draft. Ed Wang is very capable left tackle that could challenge for a starting job in a couple of years. He has good initial quickness but sometimes blocks to high. Many people think of him as a project but the Bills like his potential. If he makes the team he will be the first full blooded Chinese American to play in the NFL.

Sixth Pick Arther Moats DE James Madison
Moats is a converted linebacker that is athletic and explosive. He needs to get stronger but fits the 3-4 scheme. He is a project that could play roles on special teams.

Sixth Pick Danny Batten DE South Dakota State
The Bills grabbed another small school defensive end in the round. He's undersized but is quick with a motor that never stops.

Seventh Pick Levi Brown QB Troy
The bells rang out in Buffalo. The Bills finally pick a QB, probably though not for the future. The Bills took Levi Brown from Troy. He was invited to the combine but only as a throwing QB. He has a strong arm and is pretty accurate on his throws. He needs time to transition to the pro game. He has a chance to be a solid backup for the team.

Seventh Pick Kyle Calloway OT Iowa
For the Bills last pick of the draft they selected an offensive tackle from Iowa. He is strong and well coached but not athletic and has average feet. He can sustain blocks, however, and never stops moving.

This draft could be key in the years ahead for the Bills. If they hit it big on the top three picks this draft has the potential to be the best Bills draft in the last 15 years.

What will the bills do in Free Agency

The bills need a lot during this free agency period. They may want to pick up some of there needs in the draft. What they rally need is an offensive tackle, Defensive tackle, receiver, and quarterback. Now they may pick some of these positions during the draft. They need a defensive tackle because they are switching to a 3-4 defense. There are some 3-4 nose tackle avalible when free agency starts March 4th. Names like Jason Ferguson, Aubrayo Franklin, Ryan Pickett. These guys would help the bills in many ways. Nose tackle is if not the most important part in a 3-4 defense. You away need a big guy to crush the opposing running back. Quarterback is one of the most pressing needs for the bills. They got no production out of this area last season. Head Coach Chan Gailey has said that by the time training camp comes around the bills will have four quarterbacks on their roster. We don’t know if that will be via the draft or free agency. There are not a lot of attractive options out there for the bills. The best veteran QBs are Kyle Boller, Daunte Culpepper, Chad Pennington. The best one out of this group is Chad Pennington or Daunte Culpepper. They would greatly improve the bills porus passing game. Ofensive Tackle is next. This is something that is greatly needed. They have in expirence at the tackle position

The Saints Go Marching In

You have to feel happy for the New Orleans Saints. Not even five years ago the city were dealt with one of America's most deadliest natural disasters. Hurricane Katrina swept the city and many were left without their homes. The death toll was has severe has the storm. Thousands of people were now homeless and their hopes and dreams were has dark as the storm. People lost their belongings and most sadly there family. Streets and neighborhoods looked like a deserted ghost town. People found refuse in the Saints stadium the Super dome. People began to ask themselves What Can I do and how did my life get this bad? Well with generous donations too many charities New Orleans began to rebuild. They were still down in the dumbs though. Before this unfortunate event there sports teams were hardly any good. The Saints were just coming off a season where they didn't even play a single game at their stadium. People were depressed and mad about the circumstances they were in. After that forgettable 2005 season they fired their head coach Jim Haslett. That when they hired Sean Payton who was a Dallas Cowboys coach. There luck not only for the franchise but for the city was changing. During free agency the saints signed a quarterback that was shunned by his team after injuring his shoulder. H is name was Drew Brees. New Orleans was a perfect fit for him. He saw it has a chance to save a city and a franchise in denial. You could also say he saved his career has a professional football player. After a great 2006 draft the included USC standout Reggie Bush, the saints were ready for a surprising rise to glory. They made a surprising jump from worst to first in their division. They made it all the way to their first ever championship game. They lost but it was a great starting point for a team and a city that desperately need something to believe in. After two straight .500 seasons, people were becoming worrisome if that 2006 season was just another example of a once in a lifetime season. Then came 2009. Saints fans were hoping for a break out season for their team. What they got was something more then that. The saints won there first game. 1-0. Then their second game. 2-0. then they won their third game against the very boring and awful bills. 3-0. They kept on winning until week 13. By then though they had mostly wrapped up home field advantage and clinch the division. They lost their that three games though and many people were wondering if they can get far in the playoffs. The divisional playoff round was played with future Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner's Cardinals. They were coming off a thrilling overtime win against the Pack. They absolutely killed them. Reggie Bush scoured two touchdowns and Drew Brees tossed for two more has they won 45-14. They were just one win away from going to their first super bowl. What stood in the Saints way however was the never aging future hall of famer Brett Farve. Can they beat the Vikings with Brett Farve hot streak. The Answer was yes. They hit and hit and hit Brett Farve. With seconds left in the game and the score tied the saints needed a big play.Tracey Porter intercepted a pass from Brett Farve that saved the game for the saints. After the first drive by the saints they got into field goal range. Garrett Hartley was going to line up for a game winning 40 yard field goal. With the city of New Orleans on his shoulders he nailed the kick. The Saints are going to the Super Bowl. There team they were going to be facing was the Indianapolis Colts. They are led by another future Hall of Farmer Payton Manning. For two weeks the questions were their. Can the saints give New Orleans a NFL Championship. Can they win the game with probably the games smartest player. Finally Can the saints complete there miracle rise to greatness and give their city what they deserve. The game didn't start well for the saints. When the first quarter came to a close they were down 10-0. Saints fa n's were now thinking they were never going to win a championship and relate it to there team ill fated destiny. With team down 10-3 at half time Sean Payton saw that he needed a spark. When the kickoff team came out the kicker did a onside kick attempt and the Saints recover!!!!!!! The saints drove down the field and scored a touchdown and it was tied 10-10. The colts scoured though and got the lead back 17-10. After the field goal it was 17-13 with the forth quarter approcing. In the forth the saints were driving at will. The colts cannot stop them. On the two yard the Saints Scoured a touchdown with under 10 minutes to play. It was still not over . The colts had Payton Manning. Third down on a crucial drive to tie the game up the saints needed a big play. Tracey Porter has another big interception. He is runs at the 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, Touchdown. 31-17. The Saints will win the Super Bowl. The party started even before the clock showed zero. After four long years the saints are Super Bowl Champs and has lifted a city out of a troublesome time. So if you see a saints fan give them a smile because they deserve it.

The Buffalo Bills Assistants

The new Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey had a lot to do in his first couple of weeks on the job. The most important thing he had to do was hire valuable assistants that will be successful here in Buffalo. He wanted the coaches to be great teachers and for everyone to trust each other. While Bills fans wanted to hear someone they actually recognized, the bills did the exact opposite. The bills hired several assistants that had countless of college and pro experience. The Bills did retain two coaches from Dick Jouron's staff. The secondary coach George Catrovolos and Bob Sanders, the defensive line coach. Catrovolos retain was not a surprise. He led his secondary to record 20 of the bills 28 interceptions last season. He also saw the rise of star rookie safety Jarius Byrd. It was also not a surprise with Bob Sanders not leaving. He had experience with Chan Gailey. The defensive line was dominant last season has Aaron Schobol tallied ten sacks on the season. Chan Gailey also brought back a very familiar name to bills fans. Bruce Dehaven has came has special teams coach. He was fired unfairly in 2000 after the Music City Miracle. He walks into a very good position with the bills. The bills have Brian Moorman has their punter, Rian Lindell has the kicker, and can help Rescoe Parrish rebound from a disappointment season. Another good hire was the QB coach. George Cortez from the CFL. Helped developed many stars from the NFL. Aaron Rodgers, Jeff Garcia, and Kyle Boller are few of the names. This could be critical for what the bills do at the Quarterback position. The new offensive coordinator is also the running backs coach . His name is Curtis Modkins. Nobody knows how much play calling he will get as gailey will call the plays to start. He was the running backs coach for the cardinals. This looks good for Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch as they they are much more talented then the players down in Arizona. The next important coach to get was the offensive line. The offensive line was horrendous last year for the bills. Injuries and production was very limited. This resulted in the bad play by the whole offensive. The new coach for this unit is named Joe D'Assandris. He comes from the Kansas City Chiefs. Although the offensive line was has horrible in KC he has much better chance to succeed with the bills. The bills have at least the inner offesive line complete with Levietre, Wood, Hangartner. They need a tackle and then the offensive line will be successful. In the last couple of days there been reports that the bills have signed a defensive coordinator. George Edwards will lead the defense this year for the bills. He was the linebackers coach for the dolphins last year. He had experiences with the d coordinator in the past. He held the same in Washington in 2003. He has commented that the bills will switch to a 3-4 this season. It will be a switch and will take time but he could be a good hire. All of these coaches have something in coming. They all have experiences with coaching. They all know the game which Gailey wanted.

What Can Chan Gailey do to the bills?

The bills have found their new head coach. There 15 (but really 16Th) head coach in bills history. The new head coach was not Bill Cower, Bran Billick, Marty Schttehiemer, or even Leslie Frazier. It was Chan Gailey. I'll be the first to say to you that this name was a disappointment at first. Nobody ever heard of this guy. He was never mention has a candidate on any blogs in the buffalo area. Let me say this though he might be the best person to turn this franchise around. He has led teams to the playoffs 11 of his 15 years in the NFL. Pretty good percentage. The only time he was a head coach in this league was with the Cowboys in 98 and 99. He led a aging team to the playoffs in each of his two years there. The most important thing is he has won and has valuable experience. A thing that Dick "Frankenstein" Jouron,Mike "full of" Malarkey, Gregg Williams. He has work with Hall of Fame quarterbacks Troy Aikman, and John Elway. He also work with average quarterbacks in Kendell Stewert, Jay Fiedler. He has a long list of things to fix. He has to find a franchise quarterback. It may be on the roster , in free agency or in the draft. Does he think Ryan Fitz will be at least a decent starter? or will he think he can reserect a once promising Trent Edwards? we may go to free agency with this. Although their are not going to be any attractive free agents. You never know if this is a uncapped year. The draft will include Jimmy Clusen, Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford. He has a lot of things to fix he can lead this team to there first playoff berth sence the 19th century
